Haven Life Review 2026: You Can't Buy It Anymore. What to Compare Instead
Haven Life stopped accepting new applications in January 2024, so it can't be bought in 2026. What to compare instead: licensing, who issues the policy, exam rules, state availability and the free look, plus online sellers whose own sites describe their term offer.
Can I still buy Haven Life term insurance in 2026?
No. Haven Life stopped accepting new applications in January 2024, and in October 2026 its web address forwards to MassMutual's account dashboard rather than to an application. To replace what it offered, an online term application, compare current sellers on licensing, who issues the policy, exam rules, coverage limits, state availability and the refund window, then get quotes from several companies.

Rated #1 by independent reviewers
This page is built from the companies' own websites, Haven Life's archived notice, the Texas Department of Insurance's buying guide and a named third-party review, rather than first-hand use. Treat it as general information rather than personal insurance advice; it does not rank insurers.

Haven Life was an online agency whose term policies were issued by MassMutual or its subsidiary, C.M. Life. In 2024 its home page told visitors that it was "no longer accepting new applications" (Internet Archive capture of February 13, 2024). The third-party review site Policygenius summarises it as "As of January 2024, Haven Life is no longer accepting applications, and existing policies will be serviced by MassMutual." Its review is now titled "Haven Life Life Insurance Review: No Longer Accepting Applications".
Existing customers were not dropped, and our page for current Haven Life policyholders covers who services those policies and how to reach MassMutual. For a shopper the point is simpler. Any review that still quotes Haven Life prices, exam rules or approval speeds is describing a product you can't apply for. Policygenius's own review now carries a note that it "includes information about Haven Life's policies that were sold before 2024." The earlier version of this page made the same mistake and has been rewritten.
First, check that a "best of" pick still sells
Haven Life is not the only online name that has changed. Bestow is a name you may still see in roundups, but its own site now describes a software business: "Bestow supports term life, final expense, IUL, and more โ and can be implemented as a full platform or modular solution." On its consumer sales, the same site is direct: "Yes, Bestow used to sell term life insurance directly to the consumer under the name Bestow Life Insurance Company, but sold that carrier to Sammonsยฎ Financial Group in 2024, who renamed it Lantern Insurance Company."
Before you trust any list, including this one, open the company's own site and look for a working application, not only a policyholder login.
What to compare instead: eight criteria
State regulators publish the basic checklist, and the Texas Department of Insurance's life insurance guide is a clear example. Its shopping advice is below, with a note on what each point means when you buy online:
- Licensing. "Make sure the agent and company are licensed to sell insurance." In Texas the guide says to "use the โLook up a company or agentโ feature on our website"; check your own state insurance department for the same kind of lookup.
- Financial strength and complaints. "Check a company's financial rating and complaint history." Do this for the insurer, not only the website you apply through.
- Who issues the policy. Many online brands are agencies that place your policy with an insurer. Ladder's footer, for example, says "Each insurer is solely responsible for any claims and has financial responsibility for its own products."
- Exam rules and coverage limits. These differ by seller and by amount. Read them on the seller's own pages, not in a roundup.
- Renewal and conversion. Ask whether the policy can be renewed when the level term ends, whether it can be converted to permanent coverage, and until what age.
- State availability. Several online sellers' insurers do not write policies in New York; the table below shows where the sellers' own sites say so.
- Like-for-like quotes. "Get quotes from several companies." Then "Be sure the policies you compare offer similar coverage," and "Don't choose a policy on price alone."
- The free look. "Use your free-look period." In Texas, "Texas policies have a free-look period of at least 10 to 20 days," and "During this time, you may cancel the policy for any reason and get a full refund." Free-look rules vary by state, and some sellers offer a longer refund window of their own.
On pricing, term premiums are set for the length of the level period. The Texas guide puts it simply: "Premiums will stay the same for the entire term." That is why choosing the term length carefully at the start matters.
Online term sellers whose own sites describe the offer
Listed alphabetically; this is not a ranking. Every cell comes from the company's own website (checked October 2026).
| Company | What it is | What its site says about applying | Who issues the policies | New York |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ethos | Online agency | "Affordable life insurance with no medical exams. 100% online." | Insurers on Ethos's published carrier list | Not stated on the home page, which says "Products and their features may not be available in all states." |
| Ladder | Online agency | Online application; no medical exam for policies up to $3M, per its home page | Amica Life, Fidelity Security Life or S.USA Life | Each named insurer is listed for "all states except New York" |
| Lemonade Life | Agency for Banner Life | "Our application asks about your lifestyle and health." | Banner Life Insurance Company | "Banner Life is not authorized as an insurer and does not do business in New York." |
A few details sit behind those rows. Ethos says "We calculate your rate in real time, so you can get covered in 10 minutes," with the footnote "Approval times may vary." Its footer points to a carrier list rather than naming one insurer. Ladder's footer places S.USA Life in "all states except Connecticut and New York", and Ladder promises a full refund if you cancel "in the first 30 days". Lemonade's footer says "Banner Life products are distributed in 49 states and in DC."
If you want MassMutual itself, which Policygenius calls Haven Life's "parent company", its contact page (Internet Archive capture of October 2, 2026) points people to its advisers: "We have over 6,500+ financial professionals who can help you with insurance, investing, retirement, planning and so much more." That is an adviser channel, not a like-for-like replacement for Haven Life's online application. Haven Life's notice made the same hand-off: "To learn more about insurance and protection products and their benefits, visit MassMutual.com".
How to shop it, step by step
- Set the amount and the term. Work out how much cover your family would need and for how many years. Our guide to comparing life insurance quotes walks through the inputs.
- Collect quotes for the same amount and term from several sellers, whether online, through an agent or through a broker.
- Look up each insurer with your state insurance department for its license and complaint record.
- Read the exam, coverage and state rules on each seller's own pages before you apply.
- Use the free-look window to read the policy you are issued, and cancel within it if the contract isn't what you expected.

FAQ
Is Haven Life still in business? Not as a seller. Haven Life stopped taking applications in January 2024, and MassMutual services the policies it sold. If you own one, our policyholder page explains how to reach MassMutual.
Does MassMutual sell Haven Life's old online term policy? Haven Life's own application is closed. Its closing notice sent visitors to MassMutual's site, and MassMutual's contact page directs people who want new coverage to its financial professionals. Ask MassMutual which term products it offers in your state.
Is Bestow still selling term life insurance to consumers? Not directly. Bestow's own site says it sold its consumer insurer in 2024 to Sammons Financial Group, which renamed it Lantern Insurance Company.
Which online term life insurer is best in 2026? There isn't one answer that can be sourced. Price and approval depend on your age, health, state, coverage amount and term, so compare several quotes on the criteria above. This page lists sellers alphabetically and does not rank them.
Can I still get Haven Life's old prices? No. Haven Life prices printed in older reviews describe policies that can no longer be bought, so leave them out of your budget.
